Europe Loves Texture(s)!

Flavor is important – but it is not the only key factor in enjoyment. Consumers worldwide – and especially in Europe – increasingly care about how food feels in the mouth when eaten. By far the most popular texture trend is ‘crunchy’. Our response is a world first: Crunchy Cranberries™ from our partner Ocean Spray.

Texture is trending! Worldwide. According to the researchers at Innova Market Insights, between 2012 and 2017 the number of texture claims on food packaging doubled. The trend is also particularly evident in the introduction of new products. Over 73,000 product launches carried a texture claim on their packaging during this period – an increase of 95 percent. Most of these new products come from Europe.

All textures are not equally en vogue. The world’s most popular mouthfeel is not creamy, melting, dry, airy or fluffy. It’s crunchy. According to Innova Market Insights, the number of product launches with crunchy ingredients grew by 72 percent globally between 2012 and 2017.

Why is now the perfect time for Crunchy Cranberry™?

Meanwhile, cranberries have become a trendy fruit. The cranberry specialist Ocean Spray has now combined these two food trends and created a new product using to a special manufacturing process: Crunchy Cranberries™ Sweetened Dried Cranberries. The new fruit ingredient combines the classic flavor and bright red color of sweetened, dried cranberries, and their functional advantages, with a lastingly crunchy texture. The sweet-and-sour berries remain crunchy for up to 15 months and give chocolate, cereals, fruit-nut mixtures, dairy products, and salads the desired crunch factor as an ingredient or topping. On their own, they are an alternative to traditional snacks such as potato crisps.
