Sustainability - SAI Platform Certification

Niagro reaffirms its commitment to sustainability: 33 acerola farmers are already certified to the Bronze Standard of the SAI Platform certified. Further initiatives are being implemented to strengthen the supply chain and meet the increasing demands of the market with regard to sustainable production.

Efficiency and cooperation with farmers

Niagro's agricultural team works closely with a total of 415 farmers together. Weekly field visits enable continuous support and advice. Simple but innovative harvesting methods have been introduced in cooperation with the younger generation of farmers. Today, around 80 % of farmers The company uses a system in which the trees are gently shaken so that the fruit falls onto spread-out tarpaulins. This method ensures a faster and more efficient harvest.

Another focus is on the Water management. The use of natural retention methods is intended to reduce the risks of water scarcity.

Weather forecast

Forecasts point to a mild La Niña phenomenon to the end of 2025, with a return to neutral conditions at the beginning of 2026. Petrolina Between October and November, average precipitation of around 150 mm expected. The main rainy season will be from February to April 2026 forecast. These values correspond to the regional annual average of 400-600 mm.

 

2024/2025 harvest and stocks

The last harvest cycle was a challenge: Due to a lack of rainfall in February and March 2025, harvest volumes were 21 % below the target value

Stock levels are currently at a critical level, particularly for organic acerola. According to current estimates, stocks could not recover until January 2026 normalize again - provided that weather conditions develop as expected.

Impact on irrigation in Petrolina

In September, the Sobradinho flooding that damaged the pump system there. All eight pumps failed, resulting in a 15-day interruption of irrigation led. 

This disruption affected the flowering phase and delayed the start of the acerola season, which is now expected to be Mid-October starts.
