Walnut market: Update Chile harvest March 2025

The walnut harvest in Chile is developing positively. Thanks to optimal weather conditions, Chile has recorded excellent walnut production with high quality and increased yields this season.

Update from Chile

Favourable climatic conditions in Chile have enabled excellent walnut production this season. A winter with sufficient cooling hours, a very good spring, a moderately warm summer and plenty of water have led to a higher fruit yield and excellent quality. So far, no rain is expected that could affect the harvest.
The first estimate of the Chilean walnut harvest is around 168,000 tonnes, an increase of 20% compared to 2024. This increase in production has led to smaller nut sizes, with a higher proportion of 32/34 and 30/32 calibres, while the 34/36 sizes have decreased and 36+ are hardly ever seen.

Due to the weather-related shift in harvest cycles in Chile, the harvest is expected to start a few days earlier. The Serr and Howard varieties are expected to be harvested around 20 March, followed by Chandler at the end of March or beginning of April.
Following the smaller 2024 Californian harvest, walnut prices have risen steadily in recent months. However, the major producers in the northern hemisphere are largely sold out and the 2024 stocks from California and China are limited.
The first deliveries are already on sale and our partner Calbu is well prepared for the new season.
