Update Chile May 2026

Chilean walnut harvest 2026: Lower volumes, stable quality, strong demand

Update from Chile

The 2026 Chilean walnut harvest is nearing completion, with the last deliveries expected within the next seven days. Compared to the previous season, the harvest started earlier. Despite the influence of El Niño, weather conditions - especially rainfall - did not have a significant negative impact.

However, the volumes from the central growing regions were below original expectations. Overall, production for the 2026 season is therefore currently expected to be around 8-10 % below the previous year's level estimated.

Quality overview

From a qualitative perspective, the picture is mixed, but positive overall:

  • Shell quality: Cleaner trays compared to the previous year
  • Caliber structure: Overall smaller sizes, with less availability of calibers >36
  • Core quality: Healthier kernels with less dehydration
  • Color: Very similar to the 2025 harvest, with a slightly lower proportion of „extra light“ qualities
  • Yield: Largely at the previous year's level
